    About our Speaker:

    Jozelle Luster Booker can be described as a strategic thinker, goal setter, an activator ready to begin work, researcher/data collector, and storytelling style communicator. Over 33 years ago, her employment journey began at Memphis Light, Gas and Water Division (MLGW), the City of Memphis’ municipally owned utility company. MLGW is the largest three-service municipal utility in the nation. Her tenure began as a clerk typist with ManpowerTemporary Services. She was soon hired full-time as a clerk typist and over the years held positions in several departments including Energy Services, Human Resources, Community Relations, Government Relations, and Economic Development. In 1998, she was selected as the first Supplier Diversity Officer for the utility where she became the author and architect of the award winning MLGW Supplier Diversity Program. Later, she served as the Manager of Procurement and Contracts responsible for approximately $150 million annually for the procurement of goods and services with the exception of purchased power. In January 2017 - 20 years after the inception of the MLGW Supplier Diversity Program, the utility celebrated over a half billion dollars in spend with minority-owned, women-owned and locally-owned small business over the life of the program.

    Ms. Booker retired from MLGW in February of 2017 after 30 years of service and the joined the Mid-South Minority Business Council Continuum as president. Today, she serves as the President and CEO of the organization, a minority economic development membership organization that is the Economic Accelerator for Stage II MWBEs. Ms. Booker earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing from Jackson State University and an Executive MBA from the University of Memphis. She is active in a number of service organizations committed to improving the human condition. She is married to Wayne Booker and they have three daughters and four granddaughters.

    The Memphis, Tennessee Chapter of the Project Management Institute (PMI) was chartered in March of 1999 as a part of Region 14.  Region 14 consists of 19,852 members in South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Florida, Tennessee, Jamaica, and Trinidad/Tobago.  There are 24 chapters, ranging in size from 120 (Savannah and Columbus, GA Chapters) to 4864 (Atlanta Chapter).  Since the original charter date, the chapter has rapidly grown to a membership of over 500. Remember, all chapters exist for only one reason, to serve YOU, our members.
