Professional Development

What have we been doing?

This month, we have been talking with external trainers to collaborate with PMI Memphis to make two short boot camps available in August 2018. If you are interested in earning your PMI Agile Certified Practitioner (PMI-ACP) or PMI Risk Management Professional (PMI-RMP) certificates, pay attention to the May newsletter and the website to register for the classes. We expect to have registration links available in late April. Though PMI Memphis will not have full control of pricing, we are trying to make it as economic as possible. You’ll want to register as early as possible to get best pricing and to ensure that we have enough students to hold the class.

Our first PMBOK6 Prep Class for PMP/CAPM is Open for Registration

The registration event has now been set up for our first iteration of PMBOK6 PMP prep. Did you know that you can also take this prep class if you are planning to sit for the CAPM exam? Both the PMP and CAPM come primarily from the Project Management Book of Knowledge (PMBOK). The CAPM is targeted to the person who has project management education but does not yet have project leadership experience. Remember that a project is any initiative that has a start, a finish, and delivers some result, whether tangible or intangible. Even personal projects, like leading a home relocation or planning a wedding, counts as project leadership experience.

  • PMP exam changes effective 26 March 2018. The new PMBOK6 is already available for free download to paid members. Check out these PMP reference materials provided by PMI, and download your copy of PMBOK6.
  • CAPM exam changes after 21 May 2018. This exam also is closely related to PMBOK6 but focuses on fewer sections of the text. See these CAPM reference materials for information about the changes.

Planned Certification Prep Dates

  •  PMP Prep – 10 Jul to 2 Aug – Register now by accessing the event information here
  •  PMI-ACP – We will bring trainers in for a 2-day boot camp, target 3rd week of August
  •  PMI-RCP – We will bring trainers in for a 3-day boot camp, target 3rd week of August
  •  PMP Prep – 11 Sep to 4 Oct – Registration begins in June

Darrell Joyce was born and raised in Detroit, MI and attended the University of Michigan – Ann Arbor. After graduating with a BS in Chemistry and majoring in Biochemistry, he enjoyed working in the medical device industry for over 13 years with start up and large Fortune 500 companies.
